BSNL Unleashes ₹1 'Freedom Plan' to Accelerate 4G Adoption and Showcase Indigenous Technology

New Delhi, India – Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India's state-owned telecommunications provider, has unveiled an unprecedented 'Freedom Plan' priced at a symbolic ₹1, marking a strategic push to onboard new subscribers and showcase its rapidly expanding 4G network built on indigenous technology. The offer, launched on August 1, 2025, is a key highlight of BSNL's Independence Day celebrations and will be available until August 31, 2025.

The 'Freedom Plan' is designed to offer a comprehensive mobile experience to new users for an entire month. For just one rupee, subscribers will receive:

  • Unlimited voice calls (local and STD)
  • 2GB of high-speed data per day
  • 100 SMS messages daily
  • A free BSNL SIM card

This aggressive pricing strategy positions BSNL to directly challenge private telecom operators, whose plans offering similar benefits typically cost significantly more, ranging from ₹349 to ₹399. While private players also offer 5G services and bundled entertainment, BSNL's 'Freedom Plan' focuses on providing an affordable entry point to its 4G ecosystem, particularly for those looking to experience the network for the first time.

A Boost for 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 4G Rollout

A core objective behind this initiative is to allow Indian citizens to test and experience the country's own indigenously developed 4G technology. BSNL Chairman and Managing Director, A. Robert J. Ravi, emphasized that with BSNL's 4G, designed, developed, and deployed under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) mission, India is now among a select group of nations that have built their own telecom stack. This move is seen as a major milestone towards empowering digital India with secure, high-quality, and affordable mobile connectivity.

BSNL is in the midst of a massive 4G rollout, with plans to deploy 100,000 4G sites across the country using 'Make-in-India' technology. This extensive deployment aims to enhance connectivity, especially in rural areas, and improve BSNL's market share, which stood at 7.8% with 90.7 million mobile users as of May 2025. The company's management is confident that customers will "see the BSNL difference" through this month-long trial.

New customers interested in availing the 'Freedom Plan' can visit their nearest BSNL Customer Service Centre or authorized retailer. The offer underscores BSNL's commitment to digital inclusivity and its efforts to provide accessible and reliable telecom solutions across India.
