BSNL Unveils ₹1 'Freedom Plan' to Accelerate Indigenous 4G Adoption Across India

New Delhi, India – In a significant push towards digital inclusion and showcasing homegrown technology, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a revolutionary 'Freedom Plan' allowing new subscribers to experience its 4G services for just ₹1. Launched on August 1, 2025, as part of India's Independence Day celebrations, this limited-period offer is valid until August 31, 2025, and is designed to encourage wider adoption of BSNL's rapidly expanding 4G network.

The 'Freedom Plan' comes packed with attractive benefits for its 30-day validity. Subscribers will receive 2GB of high-speed 4G data per day, unlimited voice calls (local and STD), and 100 SMS messages daily. Upon exhaustion of the daily data limit, speeds will be throttled to 40kbps, ensuring continuous connectivity. Additionally, a free 4G SIM card is included with the plan, making it an entirely cost-effective entry point for new users.

A Strategic Move for Indigenous 4G Rollout

This aggressive pricing strategy is not merely a promotional gimmick but a strategic initiative to enable citizens to test and experience India's own indigenously developed 4G technology. BSNL's 4G network, a cornerstone of the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) mission, has been designed, developed, and deployed domestically. This achievement places India among a select group of nations that have successfully built their own telecom stack, with a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), along with Tejas Networks and C-DoT, spearheading the deployment.

BSNL is currently undertaking a massive nationwide rollout, aiming to install 100,000 4G sites across the country using 'Make-in-India' technology. As of May 2025, approximately 84,000 new 4G towers have already been installed, with the target of 100,000 expected to be met by July 2025. The company is committed to completing its pan-India 4G expansion by June 2025, significantly enhancing connectivity, data speeds, and overall service quality, particularly in rural and remote areas.

Competitive Edge in the Indian Market

While private telecom operators like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea offer similar prepaid plan benefits at significantly higher price points (ranging from ₹349 to ₹399), and also provide unlimited 5G services, BSNL's ₹1 'Freedom Plan' presents an unparalleled opportunity for new users to access modern telecom services at an almost negligible cost. BSNL Chairman and Managing Director, Shri A. Robert J. Ravi, stated that the 'Freedom Plan' offers every Indian a chance to test and experience this indigenous network for 30 days free of cost, expressing confidence that customers will "see the BSNL difference."

How to Avail the Offer

The 'Freedom Plan' is exclusively available to new BSNL users. Interested individuals can avail of this offer by visiting their nearest BSNL Customer Service Centre or authorized retailer across India. The initiative underscores BSNL's commitment to extending the benefits of digital connectivity to more people and empowering Digital India with secure, high-quality, and affordable mobile connectivity.
