Titan Evaluates Acquisitions of Emerging Watch Brands to Power Luxury Expansion — September 20, 2026

Tata Group’s lifestyle and retail major, Titan Company, is actively exploring acquisitions and strategic investments in smaller and emerging watch brands to accelerate the expansion of its premium and luxury portfolio.

The move comes at a time when Indian consumer preferences are rapidly shifting toward high-value timepieces, creating a bifurcated market where luxury demand surges while entry-level products lag.

Inorganic Expansion Backed by Past Playbook

Speaking to news agency PTI, Titan Company Chief Marketing Officer Ranjani Krishnaswamy indicated that the Bengaluru-based company is evaluating opportunities to complement its organic growth journey.

Titan has previously demonstrated significant success with acquisitions in its jewellery business—most notably through its acquisition of omni-channel jeweller CaratLane—and is willing to adopt a similar approach in the horology division. Krishnaswamy noted that any transaction would have to be strategically complementary rather than merely opportunistic, helping the company deepen its footprint across niche segments and international markets.

The interest in boutique watchmakers coincides with a rising crop of Indian micro-brands and artisanal horology ventures that incorporate indigenous design sensibilities and mechanical craftsmanship, capturing strong traction among high-net-worth individuals and millennial buyers.

Premium Demand Outpaces Entry-Level Sluggishness

The strategy aligns with marked structural shifts in India's watches and wearables market. According to company executives, the premium watch segment is growing nearly twice as fast as the sub-₹25,000 price band. Conversely, the sub-₹1,000 mass-market segment has experienced persistent sluggishness as wristwatches transition from utilitarian timekeepers into style statements and collectible investments.

Titan is also aiming to establish itself on the global horological map alongside traditional strongholds.

Key Strategic Objectives Outlined by Titan:

  • Global Positioning: Building an Indian horological powerhouse to emerge as a distinct global manufacturing and design force alongside Swiss and Japanese watchmakers.
  • In-House Innovation: Accelerating internal development around Titan's proprietary branded movement platforms.
  • Channel Diversification: Strengthening premium multi-brand retail footprint through Helios and expanding curated partnerships with international luxury labels.
  • Capacity Scaling: Ramping up supply chains to match festive and wedding season demand across metro and tier-1 markets.

Strong Festive Tailwinds

Titan anticipates robust revenue growth through the ongoing festive season, supported by healthy consumer sentiment and a packed wedding calendar. Company officials noted that operations are operating at full tilt to ensure inventory and manufacturing capacities keep pace with the surge in consumer orders for premium, analog, and limited-edition watches.
