Volume is a company's total across every vehicle type it sells — the finest manufacturer split Vahan publishes with a month axis — so two-wheeler makers sit above carmakers selling far more value. This is a count of vehicles, not of revenue. A running month is not compared against a finished one, which is why the year-on-year column is blank while September 2026 is still open.

How to read these

A manufacturer's monthly volume is exact — Vahan publishes maker against month, and these pages read it directly. What that company sold inside one segment in one month does not exist as a fact anywhere in the database: Vahan publishes maker × month and maker × vehicle class, never the two together. So every page carries the exact monthly total, and puts the segment and fuel split on the calendar-year axis where those numbers are real, labelled as year to date. Nothing here is a product of multiplying two tables.

Where Vahan files one company as several legal entities — Tata Motors as three after the demerger, Mahindra with its tractor arms booked separately — the pages add them up and print the split, because "Tata Motors sales" is a question about the company rather than about the filing. A month still in progress is never set against a finished one; the running month says so and updates daily.

Source. Every figure is a vehicle registration, read daily from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways' Vahan 4 dashboard (vahan.parivahan.gov.in) — the same source FADA and the industry use for retail data.
