Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reported an order backlog crossing the 2,00,000-unit threshold as of October 1, 2026, driven by intense customer demand entering the peak domestic festive shopping period. A dominant portion of this pending volume is concentrated in the compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment, where the refreshed Brezza has amassed more than 95,000 bookings and is closing in on the 1,00,000 mark.
The sudden swell in the order book has left the company’s dealer network operating with lean inventory levels equivalent to approximately 17 days of sales at the start of October. In response to supply bottlenecks, Maruti Suzuki has accelerated output across its manufacturing footprint, notably commissioning extra production lines at its new facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana.
Brezza Booking Profile and Powertrain Preferences
The compact SUV registered monthly dispatches exceeding 15,000 units in September 2026. Customer order distribution for the Brezza reflects a notable transition toward alternative powertrains and forced-induction gasoline configurations:
- Underbody CNG Variant: Commands the largest share, accounting for 40% of all cumulative bookings.
- 1.0-Litre Turbo-Petrol Engine: Contributes 38% of total consumer reservations.
- 1.5-Litre Naturally Aspirated Petrol: Makes up the remaining 22% of bookings.
Speaking on the order trend during the monthly sales briefing, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki, noted that the backlog exceeded 2 lakh units by October 1, emphasizing that the automaker is prioritizing both build quality and supply volume to ensure timely festive deliveries. To narrow the gap between order intake and retail delivery schedules, the automaker has expanded total monthly SUV manufacturing output from approximately 50,000 units to 56,000 units.
Broader Volume Trends and Export Performance
The order expansion coincided with a robust operating month in September 2026, during which Maruti Suzuki delivered total sales of 2,36,013 units across domestic shipments, contract manufacturing for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and export markets. Total domestic shipments, including OEM supplies, stood at 1,91,794 units.
Maruti Suzuki also expanded its overseas footprint:
- September Exports: Reached 44,219 units, reflecting a year-on-year growth of about 5%.
- First-Half Overseas Volume: Shipments from April to September rose 12.2% year-on-year to reach a record 2.32 lakh units.
- Market Share in Exports: According to Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer for Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki captured a 52% share of all passenger vehicle exports departing India between April and August, shipping more units than the rest of the domestic automotive industry combined.
For auto-sector market participants and investors tracking Nifty Auto constituent performance, Maruti Suzuki's ability to ramp Kharkhoda's assembly run-rates and convert high booking conversions into cash-flow-accretive retail dispatches will remain a key operational determinant for third-quarter revenue realizations.
