NSE and BSE to Remain Closed on Monday September 14, 2026 for Ganesh Chaturthi

Indian benchmark indices are set for an extended long weekend as trading across the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain suspended on Monday, September 14, 2026, in observance of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Combined with the regular weekend closures on Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, domestic financial markets will see a three-day break before reopening on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Affected Segments Across Exchanges

According to the official holiday calendars published by the NSE and BSE, all primary trading and settlement activities will remain halted on September 14:

  • Equity cash market
  • Equity derivatives segment (Futures & Options)
  • Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segment
  • Currency derivatives segment
  • Interest rate derivatives and corporate debt mechanisms
  • Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) segment

No trade settlements will be executed during the day, meaning settlement cycles for trades completed late last week will roll over to subsequent business days.

Commodity Market Timings

Trading on commodity bourses will follow a split schedule on Monday. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will suspend trading during its morning session from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM IST. However, the platform will reopen for evening trading starting at 5:00 PM and continue until 11:30 PM or 11:55 PM, depending on specific contract specifications, aligning domestic commodity pricing with active overseas markets.

Resumption of Trading on September 15

Normal operations on both the NSE and BSE will resume on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, under standard operating timings:

  • Pre-Open Session: 9:00 AM to 9:08 AM (order entry and matching closing by 9:15 AM)
  • Regular Trading Session: 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Closing Session: 3:40 PM to 4:00 PM

Remaining Market Holidays in 2026

Following the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday, five scheduled trading holidays remain in calendar year 2026 for the Indian equity markets:

  • Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti: Friday, October 2, 2026
  • Dussehra: Tuesday, October 20, 2026
  • Diwali-Balipratipada: Tuesday, November 10, 2026
  • Prakash Gurpurb (Guru Nanak Jayanti): Tuesday, November 24, 2026
  • Christmas: Friday, December 25, 2026

The exchanges will also conduct the customary one-hour special Muhurat Trading session for the new Hindu accounting year on the evening of Sunday, November 8, 2026, on the occasion of Diwali Laxmi Pujan.
