India's primary equity market is gearing up for an unprecedented capital-raising wave, with the initial public offering (IPO) pipeline expanding to an estimated Rs 4.64 lakh crore to Rs 4.66 lakh crore. According to capital market data compiled by PRIME Database, more than 230 companies are currently positioned in the launch queue.
The extensive pipeline comprises approximately 160 to 167 companies that have already secured regulatory approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)—representing over Rs 3 lakh crore in potential fundraising—while another 70 to 72 companies seeking nearly Rs 1.6 lakh crore have submitted draft red herring prospectuses (DRHPs) and are awaiting clearance.
Mega Issues Driving Pipeline Valuations
A major portion of the proposed fund mobilisation is anchored by landmark offerings from high-profile corporate heavyweights, technology leaders, and market infrastructure institutions:
- Jio Platforms: Leading the pipeline with a proposed issue size of approximately Rs 37,700 crore, having secured SEBI clearance at the end of August 2026.
- National Stock Exchange of India (NSE): The long-awaited public issue is pegged at roughly Rs 30,000 crore, advancing significantly following regulatory movement on its draft framework.
- PhonePe: The fintech giant is preparing an issue estimated around Rs 12,000 crore.
- Avaada Electro and Carlsberg India: Planning fundraising rounds of Rs 7,600 crore and Rs 6,300 crore, respectively.
- Prism (formerly Oravel Stays): The hospitality player has re-entered the queue with a fresh DRHP proposing an issue of Rs 6,650 crore.
- Zepto: The quick-commerce platform is targeting an issue size of over Rs 5,100 crore.
Together, the top three offerings—Jio Platforms, NSE, and PhonePe—account for nearly Rs 80,000 crore alone, establishing an exceptionally concentrated top tier of institutional-scale transactions.
Revival in Primary Market Momentum
The massive accumulation in the pipeline follows a sharp acceleration during the middle of the calendar year. While market volatility and geopolitical concerns prompted many promoters to adopt a cautious stance in the initial months, issuance pace picked up sharply across July and August, when mainboard IPOs raised upwards of Rs 55,000 crore combined.
Another operational driver behind the rush to market is the 12-month validity window for SEBI approvals. Numerous issuers whose approvals were granted late last year have moved swiftly to utilise their market windows or seek extensions to prevent draft paperwork from lapsing.
Implications for Indian Investors
For domestic institutional investors, mutual funds, and retail market participants, this deep pipeline presents a wider selection of industries spanning telecommunications, green energy, consumer tech, financial services, and healthcare.
However, market analysts advise rigorous valuation checks. With substantial capital expected to be absorbed by mega-issues, liquidity across the broader market could face tests, and primary listings will increasingly depend on secondary market stability and realistic issue pricing to generate sustainable listing-day and post-debut returns.
