HealthKart, the operator of sports nutrition brand MuscleBlaze, is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) to raise between $300 million and $400 million (approximately ₹2,800 crore to ₹3,800 crore).
The Gurugram-based company has initiated preliminary discussions with investment bankers and market intermediaries to structure the issue. Formal pitches for merchant banker mandates are expected to take place over the coming months, with the public issue targeted for market entry by the end of next year, subject to prevailing capital market conditions.
Proposed Structure and Backing
The proposed transaction is slated to be a hybrid offering combining a primary capital issuance to fund corporate expansion and an offer for sale (OFS) providing liquidity to early-stage investors.
Operated under Bright Lifecare Private Limited, HealthKart was established in 2011 by Sameer Maheshwari. The platform secured $153 million in a secondary funding round led by private equity firm ChrysCapital and Motilal Oswal Alternates, alongside participation from Neo Group and existing investor A91 Partners, valuing the firm at around $500 million. The company has also counted global investor Temasek among its institutional backers. Alongside that funding exercise, the startup had executed an employee stock option (ESOP) buyback program worth ₹55 crore.
Brand Portfolio and Omnichannel Footprint
HealthKart has transformed from an online distribution portal into a house of digital-first nutraceutical and fitness brands. Its brand portfolio addresses multiple consumer segments across the preventative wellness spectrum:
- MuscleBlaze: Caters to bodybuilding, performance fitness, and sports nutrition consumers with whey proteins and workout supplements.
- HK Vitals: Focuses on daily wellness, multivitamins, and nutritional supplements.
- Gritzo: Targets the customized nutritional requirements of children and adolescents.
- TrueBasics and bGreen: Address premium nutraceutical formulations and clean, plant-based nutritional alternatives.
To support its online operations, the business maintains a pan-India omnichannel retail footprint consisting of more than 200 physical outlets across more than 90 cities, coupled with deep distribution across third-party e-commerce marketplaces and quick-commerce channels.
Industry Tailwinds and Competitive Dynamics
The company's planned listing coincides with strong retail investor interest in consumer-facing and direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands demonstrating sustainable margins and operating discipline. Heightened health consciousness following the pandemic, urbanization, and expanding fitness adoption in Tier-1 and Tier-2 Indian cities have significantly widened the addressable market for dietary supplements.
While HealthKart holds a commanding presence in domestic sports nutrition, the broader nutritional supplements and wellness ecosystem has seen heightened competitive activity. The startup competes directly and indirectly with emerging and specialized players such as Nutrabay, HyugaLife, Fast&Up, and HealthyHey, which have also secured institutional venture rounds in recent quarters.
If formalized, HealthKart's public issue will represent one of the largest dedicated nutraceutical and consumer wellness listings on the Indian bourses, testing investor appetite for high-growth direct-to-consumer health brands.
