Electric commercial vehicle maker PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Private Limited has taken a formal step toward going public in Mumbai, filing draft papers with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) through the confidential pre-filing route.
The confidential pre-filing mechanism allows eligible issuers to submit a draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) to SEBI and stock exchanges for regulatory review without public disclosure of sensitive commercial metrics until an advanced stage. The issuer retains the flexibility to alter offering parameters or withdraw the draft before finalising its launch.
Private Equity Backing and Structural Support
PMI Electro’s public market pursuit follows substantial backing from global private equity firm KKR & Co., which committed an investment of up to $310 million across PMI Electro and its electric bus operating unit, Allfleet. Under that transaction structure, KKR acquired a minority stake in the manufacturing entity, PMI Electro Mobility, while securing a majority position in Allfleet.
Allfleet operates as an electric mobility concession platform, executing long-term concession and service agreements with various State Transport Undertakings (STUs). The segregation and capital infusion have mitigated standalone project-level balance sheet strain for the manufacturing business while supporting ongoing capital expenditure, including a manufacturing facility in Rajasthan.
Operating Scale and Growth Strategy
Founded in 2017, Delhi-NCR-based PMI Electro has developed a diversified portfolio spanning 7-metre, 9-metre, and 12-metre zero-emission electric buses, along with institutional and school transportation variants.
Key operating milestones achieved by the company include:
- Over 3,300 electric buses actively operating across more than 30 cities in India.
- Deployment of dedicated charging infrastructure and depot capacity exceeding 44 MW.
- More than 35 crore accumulated green kilometres run under diverse urban operational contracts.
Strategic Significance for Indian Public Markets
India's push to replace conventional diesel bus fleets through state tenders, the PM-eBus Sewa initiative, and national decarbonisation targets has stimulated heightened investor appetite for commercial EV supply chains. If PMI Electro converts its confidential filing into a formal public issue, it will become one of the few pure-play electric commercial vehicle original equipment manufacturers listed on the Indian bourses, entering a market space occupied by legacy heavy-vehicle giants and emerging clean-mobility players.
