Shares of HDFC Life Insurance Company declined over 3% in intraday trade, hitting a low of ₹533 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) as investors digested the insurer's financial performance for the second quarter. The decline came despite steady headline numbers and an upbeat stance from major brokerage houses.
The stock has faced sustained pressure on the bourses, falling nearly 29% calendar year-to-date. The drop in the counter stood in contrast to the broader market trend, where the benchmark NSE Nifty 50 traded higher near the 23,140 level.

Brokerage Views and Outlook
Despite the initial negative market reaction, brokerage firms retained positive views on the stock, citing resilient business generation and manageable underwriting profitability.
Analysts at Systematix Institutional Research reiterated a Buy rating, raising the target price to ₹650 from ₹630. The brokerage noted that the insurer's Q2 VNB beat street expectations by 2.2% and rebounded 31.7% quarter-on-quarter off a lower base. Analysts also flagged the company's board approval to raise up to ₹500 crore via subordinated debt, which is expected to bolster the capital adequacy ratio by around 400 basis points ahead of the impending risk-based capital (RBC) framework rollout.
Elara Securities also maintained a Buy recommendation, pointing out the healthy expansion in individual premium collections and solid recovery in margins despite ongoing headwinds regarding insurance distribution economics and regulatory consultation papers issued by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
