MakeMyTrip Acquires Majority Stake in Quick Ride to Enter Daily Commute and Ride-Pooling Market — November 7, 2026
Online travel technology platform MakeMyTrip has acquired a majority stake in Bengaluru-headquartered ride-pooling platform Quick Ride for an undisclosed sum, marking the travel giant's strategic entry into high-frequency urban commuting and shared mobility.
The acquisition broadens MakeMyTrip's ground transportation division, enabling the Nasdaq-listed online travel agency (OTA) to engage consumers beyond long-distance flights, intercity bus bookings, and holiday travel by embedding itself directly into daily office commutes.
Deal Structure and Operational Setup
Prior to the transaction, Quick Ride executed an internal corporate restructuring:
- The Quick Ride brand and its core asset-light ride-pooling operations were carved out into a newly incorporated entity, Co Ride Mobility Private Limited.
- MakeMyTrip acquired its controlling majority stake in Co Ride Mobility Private Limited.
- The startup's erstwhile electric vehicle (EV) taxi business remains outside the acquisition perimeter, staying with the original predecessor company, iDisha Info Labs Private Limited.
- Quick Ride's existing promoters, led by founder and Chief Executive Officer KNM Rao, will continue to steer the day-to-day operations.
Quick Ride will be integrated under MakeMyTrip’s ground transport umbrella, which already houses intercity bus ticketing market leader redBus and car-rental operator Savaari. The vertical is headed by Prakash Sangam, Chief Executive Officer of redBus and head of ground transport at MakeMyTrip.
Strategic Rationale: Tapping High-Frequency Commutes
Founded in 2015 by KNM Rao, Quick Ride built a technology-driven, peer-to-peer carpooling and bike-pooling network designed to cut commute costs and mitigate chronic traffic congestion across major Indian tech hubs. The platform operates primarily through an enterprise-led go-to-market model, holding tie-ups with corporate employers, software parks, and business campuses.
Speaking on the transaction, Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, highlighted that ride pooling allows the company to establish touchpoints in high-frequency daily commutes within major metropolitan areas alongside intercity routes. He noted that MakeMyTrip plans to deploy the scaling and operating playbooks developed while expanding redBus in India and overseas to grow the Quick Ride platform.
KNM Rao stated that joining the MakeMyTrip group marks a milestone for the venture, enabling it to tap into the OTA major's extensive user distribution, balance sheet, and brand trust to scale carpooling across enterprise corridors.
Market Implications for Indian Investors
For market participants tracking the digital consumer and mobility sectors, the move represents an aggressive pivot by MakeMyTrip to solve one of the internet travel sector’s primary challenges: user purchase frequency.
Key Strategic Synergies:
- Customer Lifetime Value (LTV): While leisure travel and flight bookings occur only a few times per year per consumer, office commuting happens multiple times a week, dramatically lowering customer acquisition costs across group platforms.
- Ground Mobility Stack: By combining daily carpooling (Quick Ride), intercity cab rentals (Savaari), and nationwide bus connectivity (redBus), MakeMyTrip is assembling a unified ground transportation pipeline covering first-mile, middle-mile, and intercity trips.
- Enterprise Channel Cross-Sell: Quick Ride’s deep penetration into IT parks and corporate campuses provides MakeMyTrip with an organic pipeline for its expanding corporate travel and expense management business.
