Despite the broader market optimism, the IT sector faced continued pressure due to global macro concerns and profit booking.

  • HCL Technologies: Down 2.24%
  • Tech Mahindra: Down 1.75%
  • Hindustan Unilever (HUL): Down 0.77%
  • ICICI Bank: Down 0.44%

Analysis: Reasons Behind the Moves

The primary catalyst for the market's strong performance was a report involving the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, who suggested that the country might be ready to abandon its nuclear program if certain U.S. conditions were met. This news sparked a wave of short covering and "buying the dip" after the Nifty had hit six-month lows in previous sessions.

Sector-wise, the Nifty Metal index was the standout performer, rising over 3% intra-day. This was led by a surge in aluminium prices and renewed demand for industrial commodities. Reassurances regarding oil supply also played a critical role; reports indicated that the U.S. would provide naval security for tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, which helped cool crude oil price volatility and eased concerns for oil-importing nations like India.

On the domestic front, while Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, the market found substantial support from Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs), who injected over ₹12,000 crore into the market in the preceding session, providing a cushion against global volatility. Conversely, the IT sector struggled as investors remained cautious about discretionary spending and global tech demand amidst the ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.
