How it's calculated
M = P × ((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i × (1 + i), where P = monthly SIP, i = expected annual return ÷ 12, n = months. Instalments are assumed at the start of each month (annuity-due), matching AMC calculators.
Frequently asked questions
How is SIP maturity calculated?
Each monthly instalment compounds at the expected monthly rate for the months it stays invested. The standard formula is M = P × ((1+i)^n − 1)/i × (1+i) with i = annual return/12 and n = total months.
What return should I assume for equity SIPs?
Long-run Indian equity fund returns have historically averaged around 10–14% a year, but they are not guaranteed. Use 10–12% for conservative planning and always compare against your goal with lower rates too.
Does this include expense ratio and taxes?
The expected-return input should be net of the fund's expense ratio. Capital-gains tax on redemption (12.5% LTCG above ₹1.25 lakh a year for equity funds) is not deducted — check the Capital Gains calculator for that.
