Vehicle tax and fees, September 2026
India collected ₹10,141 crore in taxes and fees through Vahan in September 2026, +32.4% on September 2025 and +3.9% on August 2026. From January to September the total is ₹94,155 crore, +22.9% on the same months of 2025.
Collections moved in step with registrations: Vahan registered 25,66,479 vehicles in September 2026, +32.9% on a year earlier. Most states charge road tax as a share of a vehicle's price, so the mix of what is bought matters as well as how many.
Vahan is where road tax on new vehicles, registration and ownership-transfer fees, permits and fitness certificates are paid. The figure here is what those services collected, as the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' Vahan Public Dashboard reports it; the dashboard does not split it by tax or fee, and neither do we.
October 2026 so far: ₹3,809 crore. A running month is not compared with finished ones.

Source. Every figure is money, not vehicles: the taxes and fees collected through Vahan (road tax, registration and transfer fees, permits, fitness and the other services it handles), as the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways' Vahan Public Dashboard (analytics.parivahan.gov.in) reports them in its "Tax & Fee Collection" chart, read daily. The dashboard gives one combined figure; we do not split it. A state is listed only when its registration counts on the same dashboard match the Vahan 4 dashboard's.
