Hyundai Motor India Launches 2026 Bayon Crossover at Introductory Price of Rs 10 Lakh
Hyundai Motor India has officially launched the all-new 2026 Bayon compact crossover in India, with prices starting at an introductory Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned strategically between the Venue compact SUV and the best-selling Creta, the Bayon gives the Korean automaker a dual-pronged strategy in the fiercely contested sub-4.3-metre SUV and crossover market.
Bookings for the India-spec Bayon have commenced across authorized Hyundai dealerships and the company’s digital sales platform at an initial token amount of Rs 11,000. Deliveries have begun immediately following the launch.
Powertrain and Mechanical Specifications
Under the hood, the Bayon is powered by Hyundai’s familiar 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated MPi petrol engine, which delivers 115 PS of maximum power and 144 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with two transmission options:
- A 6-speed manual gearbox (MT)
- An Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT / CVT)
The automatic gearbox is offered from the mid-spec HX5 variant upwards and includes a dedicated "Dash Boost" mode to improve throttle response during quick overtaking manoeuvres, alongside drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport) and steering-mounted paddle shifters. Hyundai claims an ARAI fuel efficiency figure of 18.6 kmpl for the CVT variant and 17.2 kmpl for the manual version. A factory-fitted CNG variant has also been confirmed to follow in January 2027.
Variants, Dimensions, and Key Features
The Bayon is built on Hyundai’s updated global compact platform, manufactured at the carmaker’s Sriperumbudur facility near Chennai in both right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive configurations to cater to domestic demand and export markets. It measures 4,245 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,605 mm in height, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase and a 505-litre boot.
The vehicle is offered across seven trim grades: HX2, HX3, HX3+, HX5, HX6, HX8, and HX10.
Key Cabin and Technology Highlights:
- Dual 12.3-inch screens comprising an infotainment touchscreen and an all-digital driver cluster
- Generative AI voice assistant powered by Perplexity and SoundHound AI, supporting over 500 multilingual commands
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration with over-the-air (OTA) updates and connected car technology
- Front ventilated seats, an 8-way powered driver's seat, and a voice-enabled panoramic sunroof
- Premium 8-speaker Bose sound system and wireless smartphone charger
On the safety front, the crossover incorporates 35 standard safety features, including six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS), and hill-start assist. The top-tier variants are equipped with SmartSense Level 2 Pro Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) containing 23 active safety features and a 360-degree surround-view camera setup.
Strategic Significance for Investors
The introduction of the Bayon addresses a pricing and size sweet spot between the Rs 8–15.8 lakh Venue and the premium Rs 11–20 lakh Creta. By pricing the base variant at Rs 10 lakh—roughly Rs 91,000 lower than the entry Creta—Hyundai directly challenges mid-size rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, and compact crossovers like the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.
For institutional and retail shareholders following Hyundai Motor India, expanding local production out of Chennai for both domestic sales and global exports helps maintain high capacity utilization, defends market share in India's most lucrative auto segment, and provides cushion against margin volatility.
