Jio Platforms Marks Historic Market Debut as Akash Ambani Hails Record Breaking IPO Demand — October 28, 2026
Jio Platforms officially debuted on the Indian bourses on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, marking the conclusion of the country's largest initial public offering to date. Speaking at the listing ceremony, Akash Ambani, Managing Director of Jio Platforms, expressed deep gratitude to public and institutional market participants, noting that investor appetite exceeded all management forecasts.
"My heart overflows with gratitude to every individual, every institutional investor, in India and abroad, who made our IPO a blockbuster success," Ambani said. "The response surpassed our imagination, breaking records in every investor category. We were fully subscribed for India's largest IPO within 95 minutes of launch, the fastest ever India has seen. We garnered over ₹7.5 lakh crore of demand, the highest ever India has seen. And over 1.3 crore Indians trusted us with their wealth, the highest ever subscription count India has seen."
Landmark Figures from the Primary Market Offering
The issue eclipsed previous domestic records, exceeding Hyundai Motor India's ₹27,870 crore public issue from 2024 to take the top spot among primary market offerings in India:
- Total issue size: The public issue raised approximately ₹30,213 crore at the upper end of the ₹1,065–₹1,119 price band through a fresh issue of up to 27 crore equity shares.
- Order book scale: Across institutional, non-institutional, and retail books, aggregate investor demand topped ₹7.5 lakh crore (nearly $78 billion), resulting in an oversubscription of roughly 25 times.
- Application volume: Over 1.3 crore investor applications were submitted, creating an all-time record for retail participation in the Indian primary markets.
- Subscription speed: The book reached full subscription within just 95 minutes on its opening day.
Ahead of public bidding, global anchor investors—including the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, BlackRock, and Fidelity—submitted bids exceeding $25 billion against the $853 million reserved for the anchor book.
Digital Growth and Succession Milestones
The public listing represents a crucial generational milestone for parent entity Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). Akash Ambani fronted the investor roadshows across global financial hubs alongside twin sister Isha Ambani.
Reflecting on the leadership transition from his father Mukesh Ambani, Akash Ambani stated at the listing event: "To my father: the three of us have taken the baton from your ever-loving, ever-caring, ever-supporting hands, and we will spend our lives proving worthy of it. We promise to take Jio to greater heights of growth, excellence, and reputation, in India and the world."
Operationally, the capital infusion will assist Jio Platforms in funding long-term technology roadmaps across 5G networks, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, while serving its consumer base of over 533 million subscribers. Up to ₹27,500 crore from the net proceeds will be deployed to repay or prepay existing borrowings at its telecom subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm, significantly strengthening the digital unit's standalone balance sheet.
