Jio Platforms Lists at 21.36% Premium at Rs 1,358 as Market Cap Reaches Rs 12.5 Lakh Crore
Jio Platforms Ltd, the telecom and digital services arm of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), made a strong debut on domestic stock exchanges on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, defying weak broader market sentiment.
Shares of the Mukesh Ambani-led company opened at ₹1,358 per share on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), clocking a premium of 21.36% over the final issue price of ₹1,119 per share. At the listing price, the telecom behemoth commanded a market capitalisation of approximately ₹12.50 lakh crore, up from its issue valuation of around ₹10.3 lakh crore.
The upbeat listing arrived on a day when domestic equities faced intense selling pressure, with benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 declining around 1% each during morning trading. Meanwhile, shares of parent firm Reliance Industries slipped 0.46% to trade at ₹1,194.50 on the BSE, placing RIL's market valuation at ₹16.15 lakh crore.
Record-Breaking IPO Execution
The listing marks the successful culmination of India's largest-ever public offering to date, with Jio Platforms raising ₹30,213 crore via a 100% fresh issue of 27 crore shares. The offering eclipsed the previous primary market record set by Hyundai Motor India's ₹27,870 crore issue in 2024.
The public issue had witnessed overwhelming demand during its three-day bidding period between October 21 and October 23, 2026, securing an overall subscription of 22.19 times.
Key Subscription and Issue Metrics:
- Total funds raised stood at ₹30,213 crore through an entirely fresh issue of 27 crore equity shares.
- Overall issue subscription reached 22.19 times, pulling in cumulative bids worth ₹7.4 lakh crore across 1.37 crore applications.
- Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) led the frenzy, subscribing to their quota by 70.55 times.
- The anchor book, executed at the upper price band of ₹1,119, drew commitments from marquee domestic and global institutions, including Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), BlackRock, Fidelity, Singapore's GIC, and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
The company plans to deploy ₹27,500 crore from the net proceeds toward prepayment or repayment of borrowings, helping bring Jio Platforms' debt-to-equity ratio down from 0.3 times to 0.1 times, with the remaining capital allocated to general corporate purposes.
Analyst Recommendations and Outlook
The listing debut aligned closely with unofficial market projections, as the grey market premium (GMP) had hovered between ₹244 and ₹248 per share ahead of listing day.
Brokerages and market observers maintained a constructive stance on the stock while noting that near-term upside may require operational catalysts. Abhinav Tiwari, senior research analyst at Bonanza, had projected a listing premium of around 20% over the issue valuation. Tiwari suggested that short-term investors seeking listing day gains could consider locking in partial profits, while long-term investors should hold on, supported by Jio's user base of 53.3 crore subscribers and an estimated 60% share of India's mobile data traffic.
Analysts noted that with key 5G, enterprise cloud, and home broadband expansions already factored into current pricing multiples, future stock trajectory will depend on continued average revenue per user (ARPU) expansion and tariff rationalisation across the Indian telecom industry.
