Mahindra Auto Sales Hit Record 1.31 Lakh Units in October 2026 as Domestic SUV Volumes Touch 73,338
New Delhi: Automaker Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) delivered a record-setting performance in its automotive operations for October 2026, driven by sustained retail appetite during the festive period, robust commercial vehicle dispatches, and accelerating overseas shipments.
The Mumbai-based automotive major posted its highest-ever total monthly auto sales of 1,31,109 units (including exports), marking a 9% year-on-year increase compared to October 2025. The primary growth engine remained its flagship utility vehicle (UV) portfolio, where domestic sales climbed to an all-time peak of 73,338 units, advancing 2% from the 71,624 units delivered in the corresponding period of the previous year. Overall utility vehicle dispatches, factoring in international markets, reached 74,904 units.

Festive Momentum and Product Traction
The monthly operational run-rate benefited significantly from broad-based demand across the company's core nameplates, including the Scorpio-N, Scorpio Classic, Thar, Thar Roxx, XUV700, and Bolero lines. The recently introduced dual-fuel model, the XUV 3XO ZNG, also observed healthy consumer adoption, giving Mahindra traction in the competitive compact CNG utility vehicle space.
Dr. Velusamy R, President of the Automotive Business at Mahindra & Mahindra, noted that October served as a milestone month for the brand, highlighting that the combination of peak festival demand and an expanded powertrain catalog drove record dispatches across personal transport, pickups, and urban three-wheelers.
For the April–October 2026 period (year-to-date FY27), M&M's cumulative domestic SUV volumes reached 431,480 units, expanding 17% year-on-year over the 369,194 units recorded in the corresponding seven-month window of FY26. Overall automotive exports over the same cumulative timeframe climbed 53% to 37,133 units.
Farm Equipment Sector Faces Calendar Distortion
In contrast to the volume records established in the passenger segment, M&M’s Farm Equipment Sector (FES) witnessed lower domestic dispatches during the month.
Domestic tractor volumes declined 13% year-on-year to 62,626 units, compared to 72,071 units sold in October 2025. Total tractor sales, including overseas dispatches, fell 12% to 64,846 units. Tractor exports, however, provided an offset, rising 40% year-on-year to 2,220 units.
Veejay Nakra, President of the Farm Equipment Business, clarified that the domestic decline stemmed primarily from the shifting festive calendar, with the core Diwali celebrations falling in November in 2026 compared to October in 2025, which deferred channel stocking into the subsequent month. On a cumulative April–October basis, domestic tractor volumes remained in positive territory, rising 2% to 3,25,498 units.
Market Implications for Indian Investors
Automotive analysts tracking Dalal Street view the October dispatch update favorably for M&M's blended realization profile. Utility vehicles generate the highest gross margins across M&M’s passenger catalog, and maintaining dispatches above 73,000 units indicates that order backlogs remain intact despite broader industry reports of inventory build-up at automotive dealerships. Furthermore, a 40% uptick in truck and bus dispatches indicates robust underlying freight demand and infrastructure spending across Indian logistics corridors.
