Happiest Minds Posts 15% Rise in Q2 Net Profit to Rs 62.19 Crore as AI Hesitation Slows Deal Closures

Bengaluru-based IT and digital solutions provider Happiest Minds Technologies delivered a 15.12% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 (Q2 FY27), reaching ₹62.19 crore compared to ₹54.02 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. The bottom line was supported by operational efficiencies and improved employee utilization, though quarterly profits slipped 8.0% sequentially from ₹67.60 crore in Q1 FY27 due to merger-related exceptional expenses and higher financing costs.

Revenue from operations rose 12.5% year-on-year to ₹645.43 crore, compared with ₹573.57 crore reported in Q2 FY26, recording sequential growth of 2.7%. In constant-currency terms, the company registered 6.8% year-on-year growth.

Alongside the financial results, the company's board declared an interim dividend of ₹3.05 per equity share of face value ₹2 for FY27, with the record date set for November 6, 2026.

AI Disruption Concerns Lengthen Sales Cycles

Despite broad-based expansion, the management acknowledged that corporate clients are weighing technology investments more cautiously. Slower decision-making cycles around generative artificial intelligence have left the company trailing its constant-currency revenue growth target of 12.5%.

Venkatraman Narayanan, Managing Director of Happiest Minds, pointed out that enterprise clients are grappling with whether immediate tech outlays could be quickly upended by newer generative AI innovations. Customers are questioning whether holding off on investments could yield superior or cheaper solutions in the near future, creating longer conversion pipelines for enterprise software deals.

Operational Highlights and Margin Expansion

Operating performance demonstrated resilient execution despite macroeconomic headwinds:

  • Operating profit climbed 22.4% year-on-year to ₹119.11 crore, driving operating margins up by 100 basis points sequentially to 18.5%.
  • Adjusted profit after tax (PAT)—which accounts for one-off charges and amortization of intangibles—stood at ₹79.11 crore, reflecting a 20.7% annual increase.
  • Operational utilization improved to 81.8% from 81.0% in Q1 FY27, while voluntary attrition moderated to 14.3% from 15.4%.
  • The company added seven new clients during the September quarter, bringing its active customer base to 311, with 95 clients representing corporations with over $1 billion in revenue.

Total headcount stood at 6,466 at the end of September 2026, slightly down from 6,532 at the end of the previous quarter. Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) increased to 101 days from 92 days in the preceding quarter, driven by ongoing systems integration.

ITC Infotech Merger Status

The quarter's financials included an exceptional charge of ₹3.98 crore tied to the company's planned amalgamation with ITC Infotech, a wholly owned arm of ITC Ltd.

Under the transaction framework, ITC Infotech will acquire a 22.10% stake from Happiest Minds promoter Ashok Soota and Ashok Soota Medical Research LLP prior to a full amalgamation. The transaction, which requires necessary regulatory and National Company Law Tribunal approvals, aims to create an integrated, AI-first IT powerhouse targeting $1 billion in revenue by FY28.
