Key Drivers of Today's Market
-
Hopes of Capital Gains Tax Rejig: Investor sentiment received a notable boost following comments by the Finance Minister signaling consideration of market feedback regarding equity taxation, particularly long-term capital gains (LTCG) tax and securities transaction tax (STT) levies.
-
Cooling Crude Oil Prices: International oil benchmarks provided significant relief to domestic macro concerns. Brent crude hovered around the $104–$105 per barrel mark, having fallen steeply from recent peaks near $118 amid diplomatic engagements, easing input cost worries for paints, aviation, and oil marketing companies.
-
Renewed Foreign Institutional Buying: Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned net buyers, infusing over ₹3,350 crore during the session, which injected liquidity into large-cap private financials and consumption stocks.
-
Currency Rebound: The Indian rupee strengthened by more than 20 paise against the US dollar to trade near the 94.69–94.75 zone, tracking lower oil import costs and improved risk-on sentiment.
-
Global Tech Trade Rotation: As the global AI trade saw consolidation and mixed overnight momentum on Wall Street ahead of the US midterm elections, capital rotated into defensive, resilient emerging market domestic consumption plays.
Broader Market Performance
The broader markets mirrored the bullish momentum seen in the benchmarks, albeit at a slightly measured pace.

The Nifty MidCap 100 gained 1.06% to close around 58,596.
-
The Nifty SmallCap 100 edged up 0.31%, reflecting selective stock-specific accumulation.
