How February went

India's passenger car market registered 2,95,504 vehicles in February 2025. Volumes declined 8.4% against February 2024, and fell steeply 35.6% on January.

Year to date, 7,54,449 units have been registered across 2 months, +5.9% on the same stretch of 2024 (7,12,147). The segment accounted for 14.8% of every vehicle registered in India that month.

February is the shortest month on the calendar, which flatters its daily run-rate and flatters nothing else.

These are privately registered cars and UVs. Vahan books taxis and cabs as a class of their own, another 25,890 in February 2025, and passenger-vehicle figures published elsewhere usually include them. With taxis, the month comes to 3,21,394.

Are these wholesale dispatches or retail sales?
These are retail registrations from the government Vahan portal — a vehicle counts when it is actually registered to a buyer at an RTO. The monthly numbers manufacturers announce in press releases are wholesale dispatches to dealers, which is why the two rarely match. Vahan is the same source FADA and the industry use for retail data.
