Across the 5 completed months of 2025 to May, 63,458 electric cars have been registered, +64.5% on the same months of 2024.
Electric cars were 4.7% of every car registered in May 2025, against 2.6% in May 2024 (+2.1pp).

Tata Motors (EV) led the month with 4,759 registrations — 33.9% of the electric car market — ahead of MG Motor on 4,428 (31.5%), a gap of 331 units. Tata Motors (EV) also led April.
Mahindra Electric Automobile has gained the most share against May 2024, +18.76pp to 18.8%; Tata Motors (EV) has lost the most, −30.71pp to 33.9%.
The top three hold 84.2% of the segment; 18 manufacturers registered at least one electric car.

How electric is each car maker?
Every car maker's May 2025 volume, split into battery-electric and everything else (petrol, diesel, CNG and hybrid). Leave the EVs out and Maruti Suzuki leads the non-electric cars market with 37.3%.
Among the established makers, MG Motor has gone furthest: 76.4% of its cars were electric.

Maharashtra registered the most electric cars in May 2025 — 1,851, 13.2% of the national total. Karnataka (1,441) and Kerala (1,430) followed.
