Toyota Kirloskar Motor Domestic Sales Drop 27% YoY to 29,521 Units in October 2026 Despite 18% Monthly Rebound
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) announced its sales performance for October 2026, delivering 29,521 vehicles in the Indian domestic market. While domestic dispatches experienced a sharp 26.67% year-on-year contraction compared to the 40,257 units sold in October 2025, they rebounded 17.96% on a month-on-month basis from the 25,027 units logged in September 2026.
Including overseas shipments, Toyota reported total wholesales of 30,360 units for the month. This marks a 29.22% annual decline from the 42,892 units recorded in the corresponding month last year, although overall volumes grew 7.59% compared to September 2026's total of 28,218 units.
Key Sales Metrics for October 2026
- Domestic Wholesales: 29,521 units, down 26.67% YoY (-10,736 units) and up 17.96% MoM (+4,494 units).
- Export Shipments: 839 units, down 68.16% YoY from 2,635 units and down 73.71% MoM from 3,191 units.
- Total Volume: 30,360 units, down 29.22% YoY and up 7.59% MoM.
- Sales Contribution: Domestic demand accounted for 97.24% of total dispatches, with exports making up 2.76%.
Export Contraction Weighed on Wholesales
The primary drag on Toyota's combined figures came from a severe contraction in export volumes. Overseas dispatches dropped by 68.16% year-on-year to 839 units, down from 2,635 units in October 2025. Sequentially, shipments fell by 2,352 units from the 3,191 vehicles shipped in September 2026. This 73.71% month-on-month contraction in exports curtailed the benefit of the domestic market's 4,494-unit sequential gain, limiting overall volume expansion to 2,142 vehicles.
Market Standing and Industry Dynamics
The slowdown pushed Toyota to the sixth spot in India's passenger vehicle manufacturing hierarchy for the second straight month, remaining behind Kia India, which dispatched 33,462 units during October. The performance diverged from several rival original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), including market leader Maruti Suzuki India, which achieved all-time record monthly dispatches exceeding 2.16 lakh units.
Despite the monthly year-on-year drop, Toyota's broader year-to-date trajectory remains positive. Cumulative sales for the January–October 2026 period maintained a 3.03% increase over the previous year, supported by earlier volume strength in utility vehicles such as the Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Rumion, alongside festive consumer demand for recent updates such as the refreshed Glanza.
