How the 'stock market today' page is assembled
A daily summary stitched from the site's own exchange-data builds.
The stock market today page is not a separate data feed. It reads the same published snapshots the rest of the site uses, so every figure matches the page it links to:
- Index levels, changes and P/E: live exchange data while the market is open, then the end-of-day figures.
- Breadth, FII/DII, F&O, deals, circuits, delivery and VIX: the end-of-day exchange data, once published.
- Gainers, losers, most active, new 52-week highs and the advance/decline count: while the market is open, live exchange data (gainers and losers limited to the top 500 stocks, 52-week highs to liquid stocks and ranked by change); after the close, the end-of-day technical snapshot, which adds relative volume and the full breadth figures.
The heading always carries today's date. The line under it says which session the figures are from and when the page last received new data; on a weekend or exchange holiday it says the market is closed and shows the last session. Because the sources land at different times, a section can briefly show the previous session. When it does, the page says which, and its heading names that session's date instead of saying "today". While the market is open, a page left open in a browser tab shows a notice when newer figures are in. The What changed list is written by fixed rules from the figures on the page, not by a language model, so it cannot state anything the data does not show and contains no forecast.
