How October went

The Indian vehicle market registered 29,56,540 vehicles in October 2024. Volumes climbed sharply 32.8% against October 2023, and surged 62.7% on September.

Year to date, 2,20,30,364 units have been registered across 10 months, +10.9% on the same stretch of 2023 (1,98,72,235).

October is the festive peak. Navratri and Diwali make it the single biggest registration month of most years, so year-on-year comparisons swing on where the festivals fall.

These are retail registrations from the government Vahan portal — a vehicle counts when it is actually registered to a buyer at an RTO. The monthly numbers manufacturers announce in press releases are wholesale dispatches to dealers, which is why the two rarely match. Vahan is the same source FADA and the industry use for retail data.
