What is a chart pattern?
A chart pattern is a shape that price traces out over weeks or months — a triangle, a range, three peaks with the middle one highest — which traders read as a picture of supply and demand. The shape itself is not the signal; the signal is price closing beyond the boundary that defines it, which is why every row here carries a trigger level rather than just a name.
How are these patterns detected?
A percentage ZigZag picks the swing highs and lows out of the candles, discarding the noise between them. Lines are then fitted through those swings and the resulting shape is classified by how the two boundaries slope relative to each other and how fast they converge. A formation is only published if the pivots sit tightly on their lines, the boundaries are touched several times, and price has genuinely stayed inside them. Where two readings fit the same swings — a symmetrical triangle and a falling wedge often do — only the better-scoring one is shown.
Do chart patterns actually work?
The honest answer is that they work as a way of framing risk far better than as a way of predicting direction. A pattern gives you a defined trigger, a defined invalidation level and a measured target, which is genuinely useful. It does not give you an edge on its own, and published hit rates for these formations vary enormously depending on who measured them and how. Treat the target as a reference point, not a forecast.
Why do some patterns disappear the next day?
Because the most recent swing is provisional until price actually turns. A triangle is most useful right before it breaks, so the scanner includes the still-forming final leg rather than waiting for it to confirm — the trade-off is that a new candle can change the shape, resolve it, or invalidate it. Patterns whose break has already played out are dropped rather than left on the list looking fresh.
Which timeframe should I use, daily or weekly?
Daily patterns are shorter — typically six weeks to a few months — and suit swing trading. Weekly patterns build over many months and speak to position-sized decisions. A formation that shows up on both timeframes for the same stock is worth more attention than either on its own.

How these are found: swing highs and lows are picked out with a percentage ZigZag on daily and weekly candles, and the boundaries are line-fitted through those swings. A formation is only published when the fit is tight, the boundaries are actually touched several times, and the price action stays inside them. The most recent swing is provisional, so a forming pattern can still change shape on the next candle, and patterns whose break already played out are dropped rather than shown as fresh.
