October so far
India's passenger vehicle market has registered 3,70,340 vehicles in October 2026 so far. This page grows as the numbers land.
Passenger vehicles (PV, also called 4W) are privately registered cars and UVs plus taxis and cabs, which Vahan books as a class of their own. In October 2026 so far that is 3,43,814 cars and UVs and 26,526 taxis and cabs; taxis are 7.2% of the total.
For scale, September finished at 4,38,399 and October 2025 at 5,89,739. The running total is 62.8% of last October's final figure.
Across the 9 completed months of 2026, 39,76,202 passenger vehicles have been registered, +23.7% on the same stretch of 2025.
Registrations reach Vahan a few days after the sale, so the running total climbs through the month and for a few days after it closes. October is the festive peak. Navratri and Diwali make it the single biggest registration month of most years, so year-on-year comparisons swing on where the festivals fall.

Registrations inside the segment only, counted with Vahan's own vehicle-class filter, so each number is that manufacturer's passenger vehicle volume (its cars and UVs plus its taxis and cabs). Companies that file electric models under a maker of their own (Tata, Mahindra) appear as separate rows. Early in a month the order can move around a lot — a few hundred registrations separate places until the volume builds.
Market share, year to date

Source. Every figure is a vehicle registration, taken from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways' Vahan 4 dashboard (vahan.parivahan.gov.in) — the same source FADA and the industry use for retail data. Registrations are not the wholesale dispatch numbers manufacturers announce each month. "EV" means battery electric (Vahan fuels PURE EV and ELECTRIC(BOV)); hybrids are counted separately.
