How July went
India's passenger vehicle market registered 4,27,761 vehicles in July 2026. Volumes grew strongly 23.1% against July 2025, and nudged up 1.0% on June. It was the strongest July in that record.
Passenger vehicles (PV, also called 4W) are privately registered cars and UVs plus taxis and cabs, which Vahan books as a class of their own. In July 2026 that was 3,88,272 cars and UVs and 39,489 taxis and cabs; taxis were 9.2% of the total. Against July 2025, cars and UVs were +22.8% and taxis +25.6%.
That is 17 consecutive months of year-on-year growth for the segment. Year to date, 31,22,804 units have been registered across 7 months, +22.5% on the same stretch of 2025 (25,49,373). The segment accounted for 16.2% of every vehicle registered in India that month.
July sits inside the monsoon, historically a soft month for urban showroom footfall and a strong one for farm equipment.
