Full Vahan registration report for passenger vehicles (cars, UVs and taxis) in September 2025 — every major manufacturer ranked, with month-on-month and year-on-year change, segment share, fuel mix and the state-wise picture.
How September went
India's passenger vehicle market registered 3,21,387 vehicles in September 2025. Volumes improved 9.4% against September 2024, and fell back 6.7% on August.
Passenger vehicles (PV, also called 4W) are privately registered cars and UVs plus taxis and cabs, which Vahan books as a class of their own. In September 2025 that was 2,96,378 cars and UVs and 25,009 taxis and cabs; taxis were 7.8% of the total. Against September 2024, cars and UVs were +10.3% and taxis −0.7%.
That is 7 consecutive months of year-on-year growth for the segment. Year to date, 32,15,384 units have been registered across 9 months, +5.1% on the same stretch of 2024 (30,60,310). The segment accounted for 16.6% of every vehicle registered in India that month.
September is the quiet month before the festive peak — buyers routinely defer registrations into the auspicious October window.
